Youthapong Charoenpan

Tucked away in Soi Ruamrudee, Tenface Hotel offers guests 'the best of both worlds' – tasteful exclusivity on the one hand, and a good deal of convenience on the other.

While it's possible to walk from Tenface Hotel to Lumpini Park, one of central Bangkok's few large open green spaces, the property is also handily located just a short distance from the Ploenchit BTS skytrain station. While a black tuk-tuk operates a shuttle service all day long, if you need something grander you may even get a chance to sample the hotel's chauffeured Benz.

Guests seeking some 'retail therapy' will also not be disappointed since Tenface Hotel is not far from the capital's coolest shopping hub, which includes Central World Department Store, Siam Paragon, Siam Square and the Platinum Fashion Mall.

Why ten faces?

The concept of the 79-room Tenface Hotel comes from Tosakan, a 10-headed creature featured in the Ramakien, Thailand's epic national drama, which is said to derive from the Hindu Ramayana. A rather controversial character in some ways, many people point out that the creature was able to consume a huge amount of knowledge due to his multiple heads.

Tenface Hotel has multiple offerings, too, when it comes to providing creature comforts. And every aspect of the hotel's design suggests they were carefully considered. The 79 rooms are decorated in an up-to-date and tasteful Thai style – each suite including a spacious living room, private balcony, as well as a fully-equipped pantry.

On top of this, guests need never worry about losing touch with friends or family thanks to the provision of a free hi-speed WI-FI Internet connection.

And the hotel hasn't forgotten about families either. Parents seeking a little respite from their child or children, or who are seeking to explore the city with a bit more privacy can always make use of the hotel's convenient babysitting service. Operating 24/7, the standard rate is 400 baht (US$11.68) per hour. All the hotel requests is that guests provide a few hours notice.

A stylish sanctuary

While its convenient location within the city offers plenty of appeal in itself, Tenface Hotel has also been designed in such a way that guests can enjoy the property's luxurious features in privacy. It boasts a spacious and enticing swimming pool in which to chill should the outdoor temperature reach uncomfortable levels, as well as a fully-equipped fitness center for those who wish to keep their fitness levels up

In terms of added-value, every room includes an I-Pod, while guests get the opportunity to explore the city for free thanks to the provision of a free one-day BTS travelcard. As well as including tea and coffee-making facilities and a safe-deposit box, guests can 'go local' with their handphones thanks to a free SIM card.

While this reviewer found the features and decoration to be breathtakingly cool, the hospitality provided by members of staff at Tenface Hotel was extremely warm. Sporting their stylish uniforms, each and every one I met welcomed me with an authentic sense of traditional Thai hospitality. Indeed, guests probably won't even notice how quickly time flies while lazing around the pool, exercising in the gym, or simply relaxing in the impressive lounge at this unique downtown but strictly up-market 'home from home'.
