Youthaypong Charoenpan

With its handy downtown location and stylish and sophisticated lines, it’s no wonder that The Metropolitan Hotel Bangkok has quickly become the group’s flagship property.

The hotel opened its doors in October 2003, following on from the success of the group’s much heralded debut London property, which was launched in the UK in 1997.

Attention to detail
On entry to the spacious and contemporary lobby area, I was immediately impressed by the hotel’s attention to detail, such as the meticulously prepared flower display behind the reception desk.

I booked into one of four terrace rooms, each ample living space including its own large private patio, featuring clean-lined landscaping, and an area where you can just sit back, relax and enjoy the view. The outdoor shower area offers a rather interesting and refreshing alternative, while indoors, there’s a king-size bed, an L-shaped teak bench and work desk.

Class and convenience
The property’s location is extremely convenient, located on Sathorn Road close to Silom’s busy business district and its numerous options in terms of shopping and entertainment.

The 171-room hotel offers all any demanding traveler could desire, providing a calming haven from the urban hubbub on the one hand, and easy access to it on the other depending whether you prefer peace and quiet or socializing and entertainment, respectively.

The luxury setting is accompanied by a range of useful guest services, such as 24-hour room service, and a business center offering translation and secretarial facilities. In-room goodies include a 32” LCD TV and a DVD player.

The décor has been tastefully selected and applied, while stand out details would have to be the mosaic and limestone bathroom, the terrace, locally produced silk cushions and curtains, and COMO Shambhala bathroom amenities.

Throughout the hotel, there is a subtle combination of cool and contemporary east meets west aesthetic with modern Oriental accents coupled with award winning cuisine, a holistic spa and Bangkok’s chicest lounge bar.

Peace of mind
COMO Shambhala is a health concept that has been developed in line with the meaning of shambhala (the Sanskrit word for ‘peace’) in the form of wellness centers throughout the group’s hotels and resorts. These include COMO’s city hotel spas, known as COMO Shamhala Urban Escapes, and COMO Shambhala Retreats at the company’s private islands and Uma resorts.

Cy’an is a 110-seat contemporary restaurant (first floor) with Mediterranean-inspired seafood menus, while Glow is a 57-seat eatery on the second floor, showcasing healthful, natural and organic food with an emphasis on fresh ingredients.

The Met Bar on the ground floor is exclusively for members and their guests, and can easily accommodate 110 people.

Style, sophistication
The property’s interiors provide a celebration of cutting edge minimalism combined with an attention to detail that as already won the property a good deal of praise among the capital’s harbingers of style. No matter which category of room is selected, guests will find they provide a great deal of elegance and sophistication, chic décor, as well as all the high tech equipment you could possibly desire.
