National carrier Thai Airways International (THAI) will cancel its direct flights from Bangkok to New York on July 1 as higher oil prices take a toll.

There continues to be sufficient demand for the flights, but higher fuel prices are putting the airline in a very difficult situation, a company official was quoted as saying on condition of anonymity. The official said four Airbus A340-500s used on the route would be put up for sale.

THAI will continue to operate its direct flights to Los Angeles, which will be the airline’s only direct flight to the US as of July 1. However, the airline does not rule out reducing the frequency of flights to LA and other less profitable routes during the second half of the year. – Manager Online.
