Ministry inks fertilizer deal with Petronas
The agriculture ministry has signed a contract to buy 100,000 tons of urea fertilizer from Malaysia, according to Manager Online.
Agriculture Minister Somsak Prissanananthakul presided over the contract signing ceremony on November 7.
The contract signing was between Thailand’s agricultural cooperative and Malaysia’s Petronas. The first lot was due to be imported on the weekend (November 15-16). The fertilizer will be allocated through the cooperative from Wednesday (November 19). No more than one ton would be allotted to each farmer under the management of the Cooperative Promotion Department.
The price of imported fertilizer stands at about 14,000 baht (US$403) per ton, excluding packaging and transportation costs of 2,500 baht per ton. This rate is lower than the current market price (7,000 baht ++, per ton), according to the report. - Manager Online.
