Made in Thailand: From strength to strength
Thai entrepreneurs will once again get the chance to promote their goods and services at Made in Thailand 2008, which this year has been launched by the Department of Export Promotion (DEP) under the theme ‘The Most Outstanding Showcase of Thailand’.
This year’s show, to be held during November 28-December 7, is the 21st since its inception, and the organizer plans to continue to build on the successes of previous events.
Occupying the whole of IMPACT Muang Thong Thani’s Halls 1-8, the event will feature up to 2,500 stands covering 47,000 square meters.
According to Rachane Potjanasuntorn, director-general of the DEP, last year’s show attracted 354,743 international visitors, up from 220,000 in 2006. The majority of visitors were from countries within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) grouping or other countries specifically targeted by the organizers, she said.
Income generated by the show ran into the hundreds of millions of baht, Rachane said.
“This yearly extravaganza is a great opportunity for leading Thai entrepreneurs to introduce new products and services made in Thailand and engage in direct trade negotiations with potential buyers from within Thailand and worldwide,” Rachane said. “In 2007, Thailand generated total export income of over 5.2 trillion baht [US$156 billion], and we expect the figure to increase by over 12.5% this year. The success of this event has been phenomenal.”
Thai entrepreneurs of all kinds and sizes are encouraged to participate in the show. Among the categories available are: fashion clothing; textiles; leather goods; jewelry; accessories; food and beverage; furniture and home decorative items; automotive accessories and parts; tools; electrical and electronic appliances; health and beauty products; OTOP products; as well as tourism and hospitality businesses.
In short, it’s a one-stop shopping experience for the very best Thailand has to offer.
