Signs suggest garment export recovery
The Thai Garment Manufacturers Association (TGMA) says the garment manufacturers are experiencing a rapid expansion in exports of baby clothing and sportswear, according to a National News Bureau report.
The TGMA says the global economic recovery during the latter half of the year is contributing to the expansion in Thai garment exports, particularly during the current (fourth) quarter (Q4). Other countries have begun to order a greater quantity of products from Thailand as their economies recover and import companies seek fresh stocks of supplies.
The TGMA says the export value of garments during the first seven months of the year (January-July) stood at US$ 1.77 billion, representing a 13.6% decline compared with the corresponding period last year. It forecasts that garment exports will improve during the third and fourth quarters (Q3 and Q4) and the decline in exports for the whole year would not exceed 10%.
Nevertheless, the TGMA has warned the public sector to closely monitor the exchange rate and urged the government to prevent the baht currency from appreciating further. - National News Bureau.
