Mulberry Spa:
A home-from-home in historic surroundings
Maneeya Dhammataree
Located in a serene spot off Sukhumvit Soi 23 (Soi Prasarnmit), Mulberry Spa occupies an impressive former residence of the family of Field Marshal Plaek Pibulsonggram, the former prime minister and military dictator of Thailand (1938-1944, 1948-1957).

While the colonial-style building is now operated as a spa, the peaceful, homely atmosphere remains. The interior boasts Sino-Portuguese features, while the compound includes three buildings: Ruan Ton (the main building); Ruan Makork (a small ‘Olive’ building); and Ruan Mali (a small ‘Jasmine’ building). The buildings are surrounded by lush orchards and flower beds, which compliment the spa setting perfectly.
As well as featuring a Rattanakosin-era, Sino-Portuguese-style living room, the Ruan Ton building is now used as a massage suite, offering traditional Thai, foot, and oil body massages. The smaller buildings offer the same kind of services in a more private setting.
House specialty
Mulberry Spa’s signature treatment is its ‘Mulberry Hot Tea Oil’ massage. The mulberry oil is combined with other oils depending on the time of year. So in actual fact, there are three variations on the theme, depending whether it’s the hot, rainy, or cool season.
Slightly modern in products as it is, all Mulberry’s scrub and mask are botanical. For example, Lingzhi (a kind of mushroom), and shitake are popular scrubs, while cucumber, lotus, and seaweed masks will leave your face feeling fully refreshed.
Operating under the concept of a family home spa, Mulberry offers courses for fathers and children, too. Kids can enjoy a strawberry or chocolate cream massage, the bubbling rocks keeping them entertained throughout the experience.
Men can also thoroughly enjoy a visit to Mulberry Spa and are well catered for. Simply choose from the spa’s comprehensive range of intensive massage treatments, scrubs, and masks, then let the skilled spa therapists ensure you can return home fully refreshed.
Mulberry opens daily during 10 am-midnight. For further information, or to make a reservation call Tel: +66 (0)2 664 1888.
