Steve Aoki VS Diplo
808 Club presents two of today’s hottest ‘hipster’ deejays, Steve Aoki and Diplo.
DJ Steve Aoki aka Kid Millionaire has risen from throwing impromptu concerts in his living room while a student at UC Santa Barbara in the late 90s to become one of the most sought after deejays in the country. Whether providing the indie soundtrack to his wildly popular Tuesday nights at Cinespace in LA, or dropping the biggest party hits at Hollywood’s LAX and NYC’s Marquee, Steve Aoki has become a jack-of-all-trades.
Wes Pentz aka Diplo was born in Tupelo, Mississippi, USA. His youth was spent discussing gators with his uncle, working in his father’s bait shop, and dreaming of dinosaurs living hidden out in the swamp. As he grew up he began to channel these obsessions into music (Miami Bass being a touchstone, of course) and film. After a brief stint at film school and a season out on the shrimp boats, the need to escape from America for a while led to some time in Japan, from where he sent the beat doodles he had been working on to Big Dada in the UK and was promptly signed. He returned to the US and moved to Philly where he and another deejay, Low Budget, began their now-legendary Hollertronix sessions. Diplo has toured with Prefuse 73, RJD2, Roots Manuva and M.I.A., and has performed in (among other locations) Brazil, Japan and China.

Carabao: Made in Thailand
Carabao are best known for their pleng pheua cheewit ('songs for life'), a kind of acoustic-based music that came to prominence through the protest songs of the 1970s political upheaval in the kingdom.
Carabao has successfully blended the style of songs for life with other forms of Thai music, western rock and country music, and various kinds of world music, including Latin music and reggae, earning the band such labels as 'ethnic rockers' and 'Kings of 3Cha'.
