Once at the center of fairly negative press coverage, chocolate is now known to help generate more endorphins, providing a greater sense of happiness and well-being.
Although milk chocolate includes dairy fat, it also contains carbohydrate, traces of vitamins A, D, and K, along with iron. Bitter (non-milk chocolate) offers more benefits than others, since it is more likely to include higher levels of flavonoids.
While dark chocolate seems to offer more health benefits, chocolates of all description continue to be a popular choice of gift.
One excellent option for chocoholics is Kakao Café on Sukhumvit Soi 24. As well as purchasing lovely chocolate gifts or gift sets, you can also sit down to enjoy a little self-indulgence.
Only the best
While many local producers of chocolate use palm oil as the main ingredient in their chocolate production, Kakao Café uses the more expensive cocoa butter traditionally linked with chocolate-making. Cocoa butter is less commonly found in Thailand since palm oil is produced in greater quantity. Cocoa butter and other ingredients come all the way from Belgium and France.
Items on the Kakao Café menu are pretty unique when comparing them with rival cafes. The chocolatey-themed menu is even extended to interior design themes. The interior features both renaissance and contemporary styles.
Visitor often comment on the relaxing environment and layout of the café. Chocolate bar-shaped benches adorn the first floor, along with a display of all sorts of sweet and tasty treats. The second floor offers an air-conditioned area or open terrace depending on your personal preference.
A touch of class
Pure Kakao (140 baht) is a delicious warm drink. The milk is gently kept warm by an accompanying candle that sits under the serving dish. It’s fun to just drop pieces of chocolate into the milk and watch them melt.
You can choose from a plain, milk, or white chocolate version, or combinations thereof. Kakao Café, however, recommends a single choice to fully appreciate the indulgence.

The Kakao Lava Melt (240 baht) features dark chocolate and vanilla. Kakao Café’s executive chef said he spent almost seven months perfecting the ideal blend for the Lava Melt. You’ll find soft melted chocolate at the center of this masterpiece, which also features: vanilla ice cream; strawberries; strawberry sauce; mint; and whipped cream. |

The Waffle Kakao (240 baht) is a soft, sweet desert that has a subtle hint of vanilla. Served with banana and vanilla ice cream, this treat comes topped with chocolate sauce and whipped cream.
Lots and lots of layers
The Mill Crepe (140 baht) has up to 22 layers, between which you’ll find custard, chocolate, or vanilla. The strawberries and strawberry sauce that top this dish can seem a little sour for the Thai palate.
Another excellent reason to visit Kakao Café is to purchase its high-quality chocolates as a gift. There are several choices of gift sets, with each chocolate costing between 30-40 baht each. It also offers some interesting signature drinks, such as Deep Freeze Chocolate (180 baht), Caramel Freeze (180 baht), and Virgin Strawberries (110 baht). Please note that a service charge and VAT need to be added to the prices quoted.
Kakao Café is open during 11 am-11 pm Monday through Thursday, and from 11 am-midnight Friday through Sunday. For further information, contact Tel: +66 (0)2 661 1777, or +66 (0)2 661 1766. - Translated into English and republished with the kind permission of Manager Online.
