Gazebo: Rhythms divine from dusk till dawn
Youthapong Charoenpan
Located opposite the temple of Wat Chana Songkram on the roof of 44 Plaza Building, Gazebo Club and Restaurant can be found at the somewhat quieter end of Khao Sarn Road.
Gazebo is split into two main areas – a largely open-air Moroccan-style restaurant, and a dimly-lit, air-conditioned club, featuring the dancefloor area. The two areas are clearly separated by a large tinted-glass door.

R&B night
Since I’m no ‘regular’ at Gazebo, I wasn’t too sure what the music would be like. As my companions and I queued up to get in, the sounds of Fergie’s Clumsy soon made it apparent that this was going to be R&B night.
“I love this stuff,” one of my misty-eyed companions noted. “When it comes to female R&B singers – she’s the one!”
While this writer has nothing against R&B on the whole, I sometimes find its rhythms to be a bit predictable. Nevertheless, I couldn’t help but tap my feet and before long I was heading for the dancefloor. It seems that R&B is making serious inroads as a genre in Thailand, with clubs across the country attracting lots of young devotees.
The great outdoors
Outdoors in the main dining area, I quickly got a whiff of Baraku tobacco emanating from a Hookah water pipe. This area of Gazebo features knee-high tables, each with its own Hookah.
With such an uplifting atmosphere, Gazebo would be a great place for teetotalers and occasional drinkers, who can choose from a range of refreshing juices.
But our group chose to drink some whiskey, a premium brand bottle with mixers for three costs 1,200 baht.

A mainstream feel
On entering the main club area, it seemed clear the crowd was enjoying itself, impressed by the selector’s picks. It has to be said that the DJ seemed to prefer more mainstream tunes – I can clearly remember songs from artists such as Timbaland, Pharrel, and Nelly.
We even spotted a group of very attractive ladies getting ready to leave later in the evening, but before getting to the door, they changed their minds on hearing the alluring beats of Nelly Furtado’s Promiscuous. And while there weren’t any clear signs of promiscuity going on in the club, there was certainly plenty of vying for attention on the dancefloor!

The crowd that night seemed to be mainly made up of Khao Sarn residents along with lots of foxy Thai ladies. And while there’re plenty of nightlife options to consider in the capital, I’m sure you’ll find Gazebo will easily meet or surpass your expectations.
Gazebo Club and Restaurant opens 7 pm till late, serving up Thai food until 10 pm. Diners are entertained by a band playing soft rock, reggae, and other chilled sounds from about 9 pm.
Entrance to the club costs 300 baht (US$9) per person, including two free drinks. Note that the charge is only applicable once the club area opens late in the evening. Overall, the music tends to cover Electro, Hip Hop, and House. Thursday is ladies/model night.

Avoiding ‘musical chairs’
If anything, one of my few criticisms would be Gazebo’s lack of facilities in its restrooms. With the venue attracting up to 300 revelers, finding a toilet can become quite a challenge. Bear this in mind or you may find a wait in the queue quite an uncomfortable experience!
Transport connections:
Car: Khao Sarn Road is located very close to Democracy Monument. Located at the opposite end from the police station and temple, the best place to park is probably the Government Lottery Office.
